Canon EOS Rebel T6
Someday, I will invest in a dedicated astrophotography camera but until then I’m rocking an unmodified Canon EOS Rebel T6.
And to be honest there’s nothing wrong with that! There are some amazing images out there from amateur astrophotographers using DSLR cameras. Not to mention this is a great place to start, especially if you’re on a budget, a beginner or you simply like the ease of use of a DSLR.
And great news! Kit cameras like this one almost always seem to be on sale and are generally easy to find. You could even pick up a used one from an online marketplace or astronomy forum and many times they come with a lens or two.
Unlike a dedicated astrophotography camera, no other equipment is needed to set up and start shooting! That’s right folks, no extra cables, monitors or computers needed. Of course, there are options like an intervalometer for remote shutter control or fully remote control software like Backyard EOS but they aren’t strictly necessary.
Other than your imagination, all you need is to set up your DSLR on a solid tripod, attach your lens of choice, frame your favorite night sky object and let the adventure begin!
